[edit]does anyone know what college he went to?

Doug Williams attended Grambling State University. I am adding a section for his college career. Tomyhoi (talk) 17:26, 26 September 2009 (UTC)
This article needs to be re-written. The word "legendary" appears at least a dozen times in reference to nearly every person, organization, or event that is mentioned. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.224.60.156 (talk • contribs) 18:30, 5 February 2006
Yes, an anon editor replaced most of the adjectives with "legendary" even when it was very contrary to the original intent. Treznor 18:36, 5 February 2006 (UTC)
I heard somewhere that Williams may have been on cocaine while he won his MVP. Can anyone substantiate this or is it just speculation/slander? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.174.66.80 (talk • contribs) 01:26, 6 December 2006

subpar writing
[edit]Several sections of the article have wandering paragraphs. There are also a few places where some weaselpersonal opinions are stuck in "some say". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.246.145.33 (talk) 13:28, 12 May 2010 (UTC)
Fun fact, Doug Williams actually wrote his own Wikipedia article while still under the effects of anesthesia from his root canal surgery. Please do not decry any seemingly subpar quality of its writing, that would be particularly insensitive given his wife died of a brain tumor. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1010:B017:5738:58BF:27E5:22D2:E887 (talk) 17:32, 22 October 2017 (UTC)
dental issues
[edit]The prior claim that Williams' jaw was wired shut during Super Bowl XXII, which has now propagated to other websites and even a slideshow caption this week at washingtonpost.com, is false. Photos from the February 8, 1988, issue of Sports Illustrated clearly depict him with his mouth wide open. (See especially page 28; the issue is viewable at sportsillustrated.cnn.com.) (Many will recall that Williams famously recorded the first-ever post-SuperBowl "I'm going to Disney World" commercial, again with a clearly open mouth. )
According to the entry on the 1978 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Williams did break his jaw during his rookie season, requiring it to be wired shut; this was ten years earlier than Super Bowl XXII.
While William's jaw was not wired shut during the Super Bowl, he did have a complete root canal procedure on the day prior to the big game. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gramfam (talk • contribs) 22:15, 17 July 2014 (UTC)

There should be an early life section
[edit]NFL network is running "A Football Life" on him. During the show, according to him, he didn't have running water until he was 14. He only half-jokingly claimed that carrying the bucket out to the outhouse was how he got so strong.96.240.128.124 (talk) 09:17, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
